Veginvasion Teaching Resource - East Lothian

Veginvasion is a resource pack, full of class based activities that complement the vegetable theme in a fun, practical way, based on the popular children’s book “Oliver’s Vegetables” by Vivian French.

Oliver only eats chips until a trip to Grandpa’s introduces all the tasty possibilities of fresh vegetables. But Oliver has to strike a bargain. If he can find the potatoes in the vegetable garden, he can have chips. But he must eat all the other vegetables he finds during the hunt. What will he dig up?

The pack is designed to help pupils, teachers, parents and others who influence food choices by providing an opportunity for young children to experiment with different tastes as well as learn about vegetables, where they come from and why they are important in our diet. In addition it can help some children to overcome their perceived dislike and mistrust of unfamiliar foods and learn to enjoy new textures and flavours in a relaxed social setting.

The production and printing of the pack has been funded through the Child Healthy Weight Initiative in East Lothian, also known as Healthy Happy Families, and will be distributed to all primary schools in the Lothians during the month of November 2011.
