Healthyliving award certificates presented

Caterers from more than 150 establishments came together on 9th June to celebrate their success at the latest healthyliving award ceremony.

The event was held at the Beardmore Conference Centre in Clydebank, where certificates were presented to the award winners by Yvonne Traynor, Acting Project Manager for the healthyliving award.

The healthyliving award gives national recognition to caterers and the food service sector for providing healthier menu options as well as encouraging and supporting healthier eating.

To achieve an award there are certain conditions a caterer must meet, based around the principles of a healthy balanced diet. Over 1700 catering establishments throughout the country have so far registered for the award and over 900 awards have been presented to date.

Yvonne commented: “The level of commitment shown by these award winners in producing healthy food is exemplary and they have set an industry benchmark which all organisations should strive to attain.”

“They are helping their customers to make informed choices by making healthier options widely available and are playing their part in improving the diet of people across Scotland.”

As in previous years, a diverse range of establishments was represented at the award ceremony, from a mobile soup kitchen, a juice bar and a farmhouse guest house to large workplace restaurants, hospitals, colleges and universities.

As well as first-time award winners, many of the caterers were there to receive a renewal certificate, having been successfully re-assessed following the completion of their first two-year term as award holders.
