Monitoring Scottish Dietary Targets (2005)

Scotland’s Diet Action Plan set out a range of dietary targets covering specific nutrients and various types of food that were intended for achievement by 2005. Subsequent to the Scottish Diet Action Plan, the publication of ‘Improving Health in Scotland: The Challenge’ (2003) committed the Scottish Executive to continue the further implementation of the Scottish Diet Action Plan well beyond 2005. This report reflects the work of an Expert Group which set out to investigate ways of assessing what progress has been made towards the dietary targets to date, and to advise on what further surveillance is required beyond 2005.

Review of the local food sector in Scotland (2003)

A study, commissioned by the Health Education Board for Scotland (HEBS), was initiated on behalf of a wider partnership which included HEBS, the Scottish Consumer Council, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Scottish Community Diet Project, Scottish Executive, Scottish Natural Heritage, Scottish Enterprise, and Stirling Council Forth Valley Food Links, It aims to build up an understanding of the nature and significance of the local food sector in Scotland and to make recommendations regarding its future development.

Evaluation of a Pilot Scheme to encourage local suppliers to supply food to schools (2006)

Better Communities in Scotland: Closing the Gap

This strategy sets out how the Scottish Executive - together with its partners in local government, other parts of the public sector, the private sector and voluntary and community groups – intend to turn round disadvantaged communities and create a better life for those who live in them. The Executive believes that targeted regeneration initiative are necessary to fill the gaps and ‘top up’ mainstream services, but it needs to join up national, regional and local priorities better. The community planning process is felt to provide this framework.
