Glasgow Centre for Population Health

This research and development centre works across all areas of research, policy, implementation and community life to help inform national health improvement and tackle health inequaties. It has a particular focus on work that will improve the health of Glasgow’s population.

The programme of work is detailed as:

  • develop a better understanding of health in Glasgow
  • evaluate the health impacts of local strategies, and
  • lead to new ways of improving population health in the future

Within their Evidence and Influence programme of work, there is an evaluation of local authority action to improve health which covers school-based food and health improvements activities (Project 1).

Project 1 is the evaluation of healthy food provision and promotion in schools and its impact beyond the school gate.

The research was carried out in two stages with the first during the spring/ summer of 2006. This focused on the impact of work within the school. The next stage took place in spring 2007 and looked at the impact of school-based provision of healthy food and drinks beyond the school gate.

More details of this research is available on their website:

Partners include Glasgow City Council, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Scottish Government and University of Glasgow.
