The Scottish Government is carrying out a targeted consultation on draft Food in Hospitals: National Nutrition Specifications For Food And Fluid In Hospitals In Scotland. The document has been produced by a small reference group with representation from hospital caterers, dietetics, Food Standards Agency Scotland, NHS Procurement and Scottish Government. This document is being circulated widely to those who have a role in planning, preparing, and delivering meals in hospitals. The Scottish Government values comments from all recipients. Responses should be made by 16 November 2007.
This document has been developed to support Scottish NHS Boards in implementing the NHS QIS Clinical standards for Food, Fluid, and Nutritional Care, specifically standards 3, 4, and 5. As such it provides minimum standards for nutrient and food provision for patients within hospitals; it provides guidance on how these standards can be met, through assessment of the population's dietary needs, menu planning, guidance, and practical suggestions on food choices suitable for different dietary needs, including special and therapeutic diets.
To receive a copy of this draft document, or if you have any queries, please contact Heather Curran by email or by phone on 0131 244 2540. All responses to the consultation should be returned to: hospitalfood@scotland.gsi.gov.uk
