Phase 3 of the Food Standards Agency's salt campaign kicked off on 19 March, with a series of TV ads plus press and poster advertising The TV ads featured writer, comedian and TV presenter Jenny Éclair. The ads hammered home the message that 75% of the salt we consume is from food we buy and urged people to check if food products are 'full of it'. Industry have also made commitments to continue reducing salt in their products.
In Scotland, thousands of campaign leaflets and posters were sent out to local authorities, GP surgeries, pharmacies and hospitals across Scotland. Salt roadshows took place in shopping centres in Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow, promoting the key messages to members of the public through leaflets, quizzes and a chance to see all the new adverts.
