- Public Lecture - the Optimal Diet for 21st Century Living

The University of Edinburgh, in association with the ESRC Innogen Centre and Genomics Forum, is hosting a public lecture on the Optimal Diet for 21st Century Living. It is to be delivered by Professor Walter Willett (Harvard School of Public Health), the most cited nutritionist internationally and among the five most cited persons in all fields of clinical science.
The event is free, but ticketed.

- Scottish Public Health Network (ScotPHN) Obesity Research, Policy and Practice in Scotland - National meeting

ScotPHN proposes a two day event to facilitate exchange of information in the subject of tackling the obesogenic environment. The first day will focus on the wide range of research currently being undertaken by Scottish universities, with the second, on the work being undertaken by NHS Boards, local authorities and other local partner organisations to treat and prevent obesity.
On both days there will be a presentation on Scottish Government policy and planning related to obesity and healthy weight (Word, 1.5Mb).

- Seminar - The Aftershock of Deindustrialisation

Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow
To provide an opportunity for collective exploration of the findings and the reasons that lie behind this new report, The Aftershock of Deindustrialisation, which compares the health of Scotland, the West of Scotland and a number of European post-industrial areas, a seminar has been arranged.
This seminar will be chaired by Professor Phil Hanlon and will include presentations from key figures in public health who will describe the experiences of some of the European post-industrial regions analysed in the report including the Ruhr area in Germany, Nord-Pas-de-Calais in France and Katowice in Poland.
