Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens Scotland Conference

The Federation is the membership organisation representing and supporting community operated gardens and farms. Its annual conference, now in its fourth year, aims to bring together Federation members, policy-makers and representatives of organisations related to community gardening and farming in Scotland.

Child Health and Well Being 2008

A one-day conference focusing on hot topics in child health and well being, delivered by key experts.

The conference also serves as a good meeting place to network with colleagues and pick up educational resources. This is of particular relevance to those working with children and young people in education and social care settings.

The Physical Activity and Health Alliance will be hosting a series of regional events across the country focussing on the review of the national physical activity strategy.

Five years have now passed since the launch of our national physical activity strategy Let's Make Scotland More Active. The Minister for Communities and Sport has endorsed a national review of the strategy to take stock and evaluate progress made since 2003.

The events are free but the Health Scotland has a cancellation policy. If you cancel within 7 days of the event ot fail to attend you may have to pay a £25 cancellation fee.

Diet, health and weight: Representing the perspectives of young people and parents from different social groups in Scotland

St Leonards Conference Centre, Edinburgh

Policy/practice seminar organised by University of Hertfordshire and the Research Unit in Health, Behaviour and Change (RUHBC), University of Edinburgh.

The objectives of the day are:

Dissemination of the main points from a qualitative study which involved interviews with young teenagers aged 13-15 and their parents. A percentage of these young people were obese and overweight. There will also be some social class comparison as data have been collected from socio-economically disadvantaged families during 2003/4 and then again from families with a middle class background during 2007/8
To engage with colleagues from a wide range of stakeholder organisations (policy and practice) thereby discussing the key themes from this research, and
To identify routes to inform policy and practice in relation to this research

Who should attend: colleagues from government departments and agencies, stakeholders from research, health, academia, education, public sector catering, community and voluntary sectors.
