The healthyliving award, launched by the Scottish Consumer Council and Scottish Executive in August 2006, gives national recognition to caterers and food service outlets that help their customers to eat healthily when out and about.
The award is linked to the Scottish Government's (formerly-known as Scottish Executive) healthyliving campaign and uses the recognisable apple symbol within the logo. It is intended that the apple logo will soon signify healthier options when eating out.
To qualify for an award, caterers will need to meet a set of key criteria, including a commitment to providing and supporting healthier eating, as demonstrated on the menu selection, food preparation, marketing and promotional activities and the way in which food is presented and sold.
The award is open to most food-serving outlets in Scotland, but specifically places where people go to buy food regularly, such as workplace restaurants, cafes, sandwich shops, further education sites, hospital canteens and restaurants.
