The Scottish Government and Food Standards Agency Scotland established the Food & Health Alliance(FHA) in April 2005.
It is now a joint collaboration between NHS Health Scotland, Scottish Government and Food Standard Agency Scotland. Health Scotland's involvement commenced with the recruitment of the Co-ordinator in January 2006.
The overall aim of Health Scotland is to provide leadership and work with partners to improve health and reduce health inequalities. Health Scotland is a Special Health Board, formed in April 2003 when the Public Health Institute of Scotland (PHIS) and the Health Education Board for Scotland (HEBS) were brought together.
Food Standards Agency Scotland was launched on 3 April 2000. Their commitment is to improve food safety and standards in Scotland and protect the health of Scotland's population in relation to food. The officials who carry out the Agency's work in Scotland are the Director Scotland (George Paterson), two Deputy Directors and some 70 members of staff with a range of policy and professional expertise.
The Scottish Government is the devolved government for Scotland. It was established as the Scottish Executive in 1999, following the first elections to the Scottish Parliament.
